Bomas of Kenya is a tourist village in Langata, Nairobi. Bomas (homesteads) displays traditional villages belonging to the several Kenyan tribes.

Kenya is a nation rich in culture, which is being threatened by increasing modernity. To combat the loss of this rich heritage, the Bomas of Kenya has put together a series of tribal cultural shows geared towards promoting her rich cultural diversity. It features virtually all of the 42 tribes in the country, coming together from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Bomas is a homestead and is located just 10 kilometers from the city centre with numerous homesteads reflecting Kenya’s cocktail of cultures depicting in a traditional village life style.

You will be treated to a rich traditional music and dance show at this cultural centre. The greatest excitement is the display of traditional dances, music, and songs being performed in a splendid area. Traditional dishes may be served as extras

Itinerary Details

A drive to the Bomas of Kenya situated off Langata Road 15 kms from the city centre. This is an amazing set up that offers you a first hand experience of the culture and lifestyle of many of Kenya’s tribal groups.

Traditional Dances at Bomas of Kenya enjoy the rich traditional dances, villages and handicrafts displayed at the Bomas of Kenya.and view numerous homesteads reflecting Kenya ’s cocktail of cultures which have been faithfully re-created for visitors to see traditional village life.

But the greatest excitement during the afternoon is a visit to the display of traditional dancing music and folklore songs performed in splendid arena.

It is 10 km from the capital city and it is accessible from international hotels and conference facilities in Nairobi. It is near the major international and local airports — Jomo Kenyatta and Wilson. It is also next to Nairobi National Park.

Daily Shows Schedule of Performances

Monday to Friday: 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Weekends and Public Holidays: 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Experience the rich diversity of Kenyan traditional music and dance in our daily cultural performances. Our repertoire consists of over 50 dances from different ethnic communities. With live percussion, string and wind instruments, and diverse, authentic and energetic dancing, Bomas Harambee Dancers will take you on a journey through Kenya’s past and present.

From Western Kenya and the shores of Lake Victoria (Nyanza) through Rift Valley, Central and Eastern Kenya to North-eastern and Coastal Kenya, our daily shows display an array of diverse musical and dance traditions.

Some of the dances you can experience include the impressive Maasai Eunoto dance, the Kikuyu Circumcision dance, the spectacular Chuka drummers, Coastal Sengenya and Gonda dances, Swahili Taarab, NubiDholuka dance and many more.

From Thursday to Sunday, the daily shows also feature the fabulous Mambo Jambo acrobats, who showcase the best of acrobatics, including balancing, rope skipping, juggling, fire limbo, etc.

Facilities at Bomas of Kenya

Bomas of Kenya has capacity and flexibility to host almost any type of function and comfortably cater for up to 3,000 guests. The facilities include The Auditorium an African model amphitheater that comfortably sits up to 2500 persons.

The auditorium is equipped with state of art theater lighting and a sparkling wooden floor suitable for stage shows as well as for ballroom events. A raised stage can be availed for stage shows and VIP functions. The auditorium is equipped with a PA System and 24 channel sound consolable to audio record live proceeding.

International standard gymnasium indoor games (volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and darts), a soft-carpeted hall that can seat 2,000 people, a mini-hall of international standard ideal for workshops and a soft-carpeted hall arranged to sit 300 people for stage shows.

There is also a child amusement park, an outdoor football, volleyball and tug-of-war field, a filming and picnic sites, a secure car park for 3,000 cars and traditional costumes for hire.

Bomas boosts of an executive lounge and 3 meeting rooms that are suitable for holding AGMs exhibitions, end of year functions, wedding reception, an official government building and award ceremonies for both local and international, and conferencing.

Simba Room
Located in the Utamaduni Restaurant, Simba room can be arranged to sit up to 80 persons for seminars, workshops and AGMs.

Ndovu Room
Located in the Utamaduni Restaurant, Ndovu room can sit up to 12O persons for seminars, workshops, and exhibitions.

Multi-Purpose Hall
The hall is soft carpeted and is ideal for conferences, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, and social gatherings. The hall can be used as an international standard gymnasium for indoor games such as volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and darts.

Dining Options
At the Bomas of Kenya, there is Utamaduni restaurant that serves a wide variety of delectable meals of International and Local cuisine. We have two operational bars in the restaurant.

Other Services
This is the best place to enjoy a cross section of different Kenyan traditional dances and songs from the 42 tribes of Kenya. Others include traditional villages, an acrobatic team, and a children’s amusement park. Sports activities include outdoor football, volleyball, the tag of war, Indoor volleyball, badminton, table tennis, scrabble and darts.

Bomas of Kenya is also a wonderful filming site. Secure and ample car park with a holding capacity of up to 3,000 vehicles.  Plans are underway to introduce nature trail excursions, camping sites, picnic sites, and cycling tracks.
